Summary of the Post

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Development Leader who will assist the Team Leader for Teaching and Standards with the training of new and experienced teachers. We are looking for someone to lead the Cert Ed/PGCE course and, if possible, to help develop the suite of Skills for Life training programmes.

This will involve a substantial amount of teaching and observation of teachers, and course management.

The post holder will be responsible to the team leader for Teaching and Standards for a range of duties and will assist the team leader with the development of this curriculum area.

The Teaching and Standards curriculum area includes the following courses:

▪ Assessor and Verifier Awards
▪ Cert Ed/PGCE , validated by UCS
▪ City & Guilds 7303 PTLLS
▪ City & Guilds Level 3 Adult Literacy Subject Support
▪ City & Guilds Level 3 Adult Numeracy Subject Support
▪ City & Guilds 9297


Main Responsibilities

The Development Leader will be responsible for developing designated elements of curriculum delivery as required by the team leader for Teaching and Standards.
S/he will be required to undertake a substantive amount of teaching and course leadership for the Cert Ed/PGCE and possibly other courses.

Responsibilities will include assisting the team leader for the following:

▪ Tracking learner activity with respect to recruitment, retention and achievement
▪ Teaching and tutoring trainee teachers
▪ Observations of trainee teachers
▪ Self assessment activities including setting and monitoring of targets for the above
▪ Monitoring budgets
▪ Developing curriculum and course portfolio
▪ Continuous improvement of learning resources including e-learning resources
▪ Staff deployment including some limited timetabling
▪ Monitoring learner satisfaction levels and learner complaints
• Assisting with appraisals of staff in line with college timetable
• Marketing activities

Other Duties

The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties of the level of responsibility entailed. Such variations are a common occurrence and would not themselves justify re-evaluation of the post.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

▪ Experience of teaching within the further education sector (minimum 3 – 5 years), preferably with some experience of HE work
▪ A proven track record of successful innovation and project management
▪ Leadership at course level
▪ Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Desirable

Experience of mentoring/supporting colleagues

Qualifications

Essential

▪ Degree or equivalent professional qualification
▪ Teaching qualification (Cert Ed., PGCE, or equivalent)
▪ Internal verification award and assessor awards

Salary

At an appropriate point within the salary range £25,048 to £33,395 subject to pay award. (Candidates with suitable qualifications and experience will be placed at the top of the salary range.)

Conditions of Service

Conditions of service will be in accordance with the Great Yarmouth College Professional Academic contract.

Skills Training and Development
